Birchclan camp

I walked into camp with a magpie in my mouth, I dropped it into the fresh kill pile and picked myself out a vole too eat.

"Shadestar!" I called to my leader. "When can we go out to train?" I said squealing like a kit. I had just recently gotten my apprenticeship and I was eager to start training, and hunting and fighting. I ran to him, and leaped around Shadestar in dizzying circles. I stopped to sniff his kill. "I want to hunt just like you!" I squealed and pounced onto the mous, pretending to bit the lif out of it.

I looked at Mosspaw with enthousiatic eyes. I sighed, "Now calm down Mosspaw, we will start soon." I said, my deep soothing voice explaining everything. I stood up and walked up too the gourse entrance, with a flick of my tail I bekonned Mosspaw. I leaped out of camp and walked too the training hollow. "Today we will rescent the border, and I will show you all of our territory." I looked down at her.

"Okay!" I practically yelled and walloped after him. I sneezed and kept going, ahead of him, then circling back, then repeating. "Are we gonna fight?" I said jumping into a defencive stance infront of him. I raced up a tree, then back down and prowled into a bush. I leaped back out and tackled a leaf. I finally lost my energy and walked beside him, my sun coloured tail dragging in the dust. I purred loudly and flicked my ears around, listening to all the new things. Panting, I licked my ruffled golden chest fur as we walked, the whole time I looked up at him, my eyes glimmering with hope and excitement.

I simply laughed my low laugh whenever I was happy. "Alright, mark this boulder here." I said as we approached a large boulder that most cats lay on in the sun. "Like this," I lifted my tail and sprayed the rock. "You can do the next one." I said gently. I walked forwards and amused, looked at her with gentle eyes. I smiled. I was determined too make her my deputy when she was old enough. I pounced into a tree, that was one of our talents, we could jump high, we were fast, and we were strong like the great Tigerclan. I called her up, you could see everything from here, even camp. I heard movement in the brushes and leaped down. I stood protectivly infront of Mosspaw, but it was a false alarm. I was a big cat and I could scare off a lot of animals, I was bigger than other leaders as well. You could almost say I was as big as a fox or at least 3/4 of it's size.

I began to leap up the giant boulder, but then I spun around to the sound in the bushes, and quivered beside the bottom of the rock. Then Shadestar came, and I observed how brave he was and that he was standing tall and proud, so I stood beside him, just a shadow to his amazing height, and puffed out my chest. I let my claws slide into the soft earth, and I meowed "Show yourself!" with my lackluster voice. I sprung back and coughed. "No, no!" I said trying to growl but failing. "Why don't I sound menacing!?" I asked Starclan. the sky was a soft blue carying big puffy white couds. A perfect day to go play in the stream with my littermates - but I was an apprentice now, I had to stop acting like a kit, just as Poppyscar, one of the elders always said to the warriors.

"It was a flase alarm Mosspaw. Just the wind." I looked at her. "Here, mark here." I looked down at the ground and caught the scent of prey quite easily. I stalked after it. With a swift jump I brought down a squirrel and bit it's neck. "You can tell everyone you caught this." I said with a wink. I brought it over to Mosspaw and dropped it at her feet. "Just remember, you caught it, then next lesson I'll show you how too catch your own. Ok?" We had finished remarking the border by then so we walked back too camp.

I nodded and picked it up. I padded cooly back to camp and dropped it in the fresh kill pile, hoping the other warriors and apprentices saw. "What now?" I said leaping past Shadestar, just bursting with energy.

"You have too help the other apprentinces clean up after the elders." I looked at the gorse tunnel then padded up too my den. I jumped up onto the leaders rock. Cats had already started gathering but I yowled the words anyways. "Let all cats old enough too catch their own prey gather for a clan meeting." I waited until I saw that all the cats that should have gathered were here. "Tonight is the night of the full moon. If anything is too be said bring it too my den where I will be waiting." I leaped down swiftly, my muscular body rippling and I padded into my den. I had to get ready for tonight.

"Aww." I muttered as he walked off. I went to some of the apprentices and started to help clean up. I heard Shadestar yowl the command, and I would have just ignored it, but I rememberd that I was an apprentice now, able to catch my own prey. I leaped to the rock to listen to the short announcement. I purred at the thought of going to my first gathering....that is if I were accepted. I slumped and padded back lazily to the elder's den. I wouldn't be accepted. Not me, a newley made apprentice. I wokrd hard and finnished the den, so I could go eat. I shared a vole with another apprentice.

"Mosspaw." I called, "Your coming too the gathering tomight," I glared up at Eagleclaw and asked her too come too the gathering as well then I stared back down at the two apprentices, and walked away.

Mosspaw: I jumped up. "me?!" I asked in disbelif. My pelt prickled with excitment. Every single whisker of mine tingled with pride. I jumped i and down pouncing on my friend. "Me!!" I squealed.

I chuckled, glancing at runningpaw who was obviously annoyed.

I paded over too the medicine cat's den, and waited for Eagleclaw too take notice that I was waiting for her. I had been haing starnge dreams, omens possibly.

Hawkpool dipped her head and turned to the fresh-kill pile for a meal before going to fourtree's.I hope I go to fourtree's, she thought to herself. When she finished the vole she picked, she started to groom her slender, light brown tabby body. By the time she was doen, her pelt gleamed in the setting sun. Yawning, she waited to be signaled to go.

I looked around me, Eagleclaw was obviously busy. "Hawkpool, Runningpaw, Mosspaw, Smokeeye, Spottedheart, Shadowpath, and Nightfeather. It's time to go." I said, my voice deep with anticapation. I looked over my shoulder then leaped out of the camp, as we reached the entrance to fourtree's I signled the group too stop. We had too wait, and within seconds other cats were gathering. I slipped in and made a great leap onto the leader's rock. I sat there while the other leader's joined me. I greeted Swiftstar, the leader of Oakclan, then we began.

I glared at Mosspaw as she jumped up and down with excitement. I growled under my breath. why does Mosspaw get to go and i can't? I'm obviously the more mature, sensible one, look at that piece of foxdung jumping up and down... I cannot believe that someone would be so mouse-brained to let someone like HER tag along, TO A GATHERING, where she can make a fool of the WHOLE clan! I snorted angrily and padded away, seething with rage.

Mosspaw padded quickly past Runningpaw's icy stare, not noticing it, and went right through the entrance, following Shadestar. As she ran Mosspelt felt the wind in her fur and her tail streaming out behind her. She was extremely excited for the gathering. (at gathering now)

I chuckled under my breath as I saw Mosspaw stuck in the gorse tunnel, I silently padded up behind her and broke the twig her fur was stuck to with my teeth. I stood over top of her, a shadow forming over her. I laughed as I stalked past her too my den.

Mosspaw ducked her head in embarresment. She padded back into camp where she was supposed to be. "Shadestar?" She asked. "Can we start training early today?" she asked, padding up beside her mentor.

I laughed. "Sure, but I think you should groom yourself before we do, just in case the same accident happens." I chuckled in a low voice, then looked down on her with serious eyes. I smiled at her, the warmth in it not reaching my eyes. Obviously something was bothering me but I couldn't let anyone know. It was too dangerous. My secret must never be revieled. I looked away from her only for a short second before turning back too her with my face hard. I knew there were going too be questions about my expresions so I had too act quick before she asked any. I sighed, "Sometimes Mosspaw, life can be harder for the one's who bring bad too the world, and other times life is easier for the one's who brong good and joy too the world." My voice was gentle and reasonable, but strained and eghausted so it was hard too sound soothing. I licked the top of her head and turned away. "Groom yourself before we train, we're going too work on fighting today." I flopped onto the ground with a heavy sigh. I watched Mosspaw.

Mosspaw opened her mouth to speak but got cut off. She flicked her tail in frustration and listened on, puzzled. She didn;t understand why warriors talked to apprentices ilke that. They couldn't understand any of it. So Mosspaw began to lick herself clean. She did chew out a whole clog of fur. Sneezing, she buried the load and looked at the glossy pelt. "May we go now Shadestar?" she asked with anticipation. Bounding towards the exit, she was careful not to get her pelt stuck.

I snarled at Mosspaw. "Stop right there Mosspaw." I said with fire in the voice. "How DARE you call me Shadepelt, you know very wel that I'm not a warrior anymore, and too you it's ShadeSTAR!!" I yowled furious by her bad mistake. "You shall be punished, we are not training today and you will take after the elders with no help from the other apprentices." My fur was bristling. "Runningpaw, I'll train you today. Let's go. Oh and Smokeeye I want you too make sure Mosspaw doesn't eat or leave this camp until ALL the elders are happy." I snarled and paced out of the camp.
